Hi Webbes, this was just what i was looking for (i think!). Pi3b+, good quality outboard DAC box and I'm looking for no frills/low processing draw and just relaiable straight up playing of 2 audio sources with cueing and basic dvs features.

I tried on Mixxx forum to ask this question (going backwards for something basic) but got not joy so pleased to find some info to give me a steer. Looking forward to trying it and wondered if you still use the pi3 with that version of Mixxx still?

Sorry, I do not have any experience with setting up an ir receiver with Volumio. I've been using Volumio for a while and the creator of Volumio is a great guy that probably will respond right away when you ask him.

A DAC is not required. The on-board audio output is of low quality however, so I do not recommend to use it for professional audio.

Is a DAC required? I have a controller (Pioneer DDJ SB) and it has an audio jack on it's side. Can't I plug my headphones into that audio jack and connect the controller to the Raspberry Pi 2 B via USB?
Also why can't I just use the sound card integrated in the Pi2B?

If the usb soundcard is ALSA compatible and working as expected on raspbian jessie, I expect it to work with Mixxx as Mixxx will let you select which default ALSA output you would like to use. But there is only one way to find out.
